Program Overview

According to the University of San Francisco:

The University of San Francisco’s online MSN Clinical Nurse Leader program takes an innovative approach to nursing, encouraging nurses to transcend the traditional boundaries of the nursing role and proactively seek new health care solutions. The program aims to equip nurses with leadership skills to help carry out a variety of nursing roles, including leading improvement projects at the bedside and managing interdisciplinary teams. Leveraging a solid scientific foundation, the curriculum focuses on quality improvement, patient safety, and care coordination with other health professionals. The program culminates with the required NURS 651: CNL Role Synthesis course, during which students implement a quality improvement project and have the option of taking the Clinical Nurse Leader Certification exam.

Admission requirements According to the University of San Francisco, to be eligible for admission to the MSN program, applicants must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BSN) or Associate’s degree (ADN) from an accredited college or university (please provide official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended).
  • Grade point average of 3.0 or higher (University of San Francisco does accept applicants who have GPA lower than 3.0 on a conditional basis. Conditional admit applicants may be required to take a 4-unit graduate level writing course in the first semester, PSCS 500).
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Statement of Goals
  • Resume
  • Documentation of professional RN license
  • TOEFL scores if needed
  • $55 application fee
