Program Overview

According to George Washington University:

“This program option is a collaboration between the George Washington University School of Nursing, which awards an MSN, and Shenandoah University, which awards a post-graduate certificate. The program stresses the integration of research and nurse-midwifery practice with a strong emphasis on women’s health and primary care from antepartal and perinatal care through postpartum and neonatal care and role development. The program prepares graduates as nurse-midwives who are eligible to sit for the national certification exam given by the American Midwifery Certification Board.”

Admission requirements

According to George Washington University, to be eligible for admission to the MSN program, applicants must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Preferred scholastic GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Official transcripts (from all post-secondary schools)
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Current resume
  • Personal statement
  • Active and unencumbered nursing licensure
