Program Overview

According to Loyola University:

“Loyola University New Orleans’s Family Nurse Practitioner track develops your advanced nursing skills so you can provide evidence-based, holistic care to individual, families, and populations across the health continuum. The Family Nurse Practitioner track consists of 48 credit hours and 720 hours of supervised practicum. All courses are provided online, except for supervised practicum work, which is completed in a state in which the student is licensed to practice.”

Admission requirements According to Loyola University, to be eligible for admission, applicants must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Complete the free online application
  • Typed goal statement, approximately one page in length, describing your career goals and interest in graduate education. Family Nurse Practitioner applicants should address why they want to be a nurse practitioner.
  • Copy of your current and unrestricted RN license to practice in the United States
  • Evidence of a BSN from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited U.S. college/university, or the equivalent from an international college/university, with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher; or an associate’s degree in nursing and a bachelor’s degree in another field for the BLEND option to entry into the MSN program.
  • Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended (even if you did not receive credit)
  • Resume indicating professional work experience
  • Three recommendations (on the form provided by Loyola) from persons knowledgeable about the applicant’s aptitude for graduate school such as former Professors or Nursing Supervisors
  • Certified Background Check: Upon admission into the program and at least 60 days prior to enrollment, you are required to apply for a certified background review at your expense with the results reported to Loyola University New Orleans School of Nursing.
  • $500 deposit (upon acceptance).
