“The goal of the DNP program is to prepare graduates for the highest level of nursing leadership and practice within organizations and systems, to improve health care delivery and patient outcomes at all levels and for diverse populations, to serve as faculty in nursing education programs, and to translate research findings for clinical practice.”

Admission requirements

According to University of Nebraska, to be eligible for admission to the DNP program, applicants must fulfill the following requirements:

  • MSN degree or equivalent from an Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited school of nursing
  • Have a master’s degree with in nursing administration or a clinical specialization to prepare graduate as and advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) (Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, or Nurse Midwife)
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.4 on a 4.0 scale
  • Proof of current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in one of the 50 states in the U.S.
